Plastics and petroleum products were pioneered in Hackney. Currently controversial, Carolyn Clark’s talk will consider all aspects of plastic’s origins and development and topical ongoing sustainability issues.
Carolyn Clark is a community historian and author. Publications include The Shoreditch Tales and The Lower Clapton Tales and work on the east end canals. Carolyn has researched the history of the plastics industry in the UK, speaking to many former workers, is a Director of the Plastics Historical Society and deputy editor of the Plastiquarian which she has written extensively for.
