Thursday, April 9, 2020 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM

The Newington Green Meeting House has been a hotbed of Dissent and revolutionary ideas since 1708. Richard Price, who became minister in 1758, welcomed Thomas Paine, Benjamin Franklin, Thomas Jefferson, John Adams, William Pitt, David Hume, Joseph Priestley and Adam Smith to Newington Green. Amongst his friends and congregants was Mary Wollstonecraft, feminist pioneer, who set up a girl’s school nearby. Anna Laetitia Barbauld, poet and author, joined the congregation in 1802.

Support from the Heritage Lottery Fund has enabled a major refurbishment of this beautiful Grade II listed building. Ahead of the official re-opening, Hackney History have been invited to tour of the new building and hear a talk about its unique history.
